Message from Iemoto Zabosai SEN Soshitsu I express my hearty joy that a relay chado event is taking place in North America. 　Currently, due to the spread of the novel coronavirus, people worldwide are facing psychological and financial hardships. Within this, your posture in exploring what you yourselves can do, and your positive perspective in trying out new initiatives is encouraging for me. 　I am informed that the idea for the relay chado event was inspired by the pre-event for the Tankokai Seinenbu’s national conference in Japan. I believe that by NOT thinking that Japan is Japan and drawing a line between Japan and the world beyond its shores, and by recognizing their respective advantages and inspiring each other, they will mutually grow and an even better synergistic effect can be created. 　I hope that, through this relay chado event, your bonds will deepen and, by activating those bonds, the chanoyu network in North America will expand even further. 　Let me close this brief message by expressing my prayers for the health and heartiness of all Tankokai association members in North America, and the ever-increasing activities of your Tankokai associations. 坐忘斎　千　宗室　家元 様よりのメッセージ 　北米において茶道リレーが実施されますことを心よりお慶び申し上げます。 　今回の新型コロナウィルスの感染拡大により、世界中の人々が精神的にも経済的にも苦境に立たされている今、自分たちにできることを模索し、前向きな気持ちで新たな取り組みに挑戦される皆さまの姿を心強く感じる次第です。 　この度の取り組みは、日本の青年部全国大会のプレ行事に刺激を受けて始めることにされたと聞きました。日本は日本、海外は海外と線引きをするのではなく、互いの良いところを認め合い、刺激し合うことで共に成長し、より良い相乗効果を生み出すことができるのだと存じます。 　茶道リレーを通じて皆さまの絆が一層深まるとともに、その活躍により北米における茶の湯のネットワークがさらに広がっていくことを願っております。 　結びに、北米各協会の益々のご発展と会員の皆さまのご健勝を祈念いたします。 ---------------------------------------------- Message from Daisosho Hounsai SEN Genshitsu The North America Chado Relay being held as a new means to deepen the ties between Tankokai associations and members is an event for celebration. 　What with the various restraints that we are undergoing due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, and the anxieties and difficulties that everyone is experiencing, the fact that all the Tankokai associations in North America are cooperating to hold a shared project is deeply significant, and makes me happy. Within these circumstances today, I urge each association to be innovative in their activities, with uncomplicated and infection-safe methods of sharing a bowl of tea between a host and a single guest or, at maximum, five guests. 　I began my international exchange activities by means of chado in Hawaii, following World War II. Under my ideal of “Peacefulness through a bowl of tea,” I have bonded with others and connected those bonds step by step. 祝･日本館６０周年　記念行事その１．裏千家大宗匠を招待

日本人なら子供からお年寄りまで誰もが大好きなお茶。茶道とは湯を沸かし、茶を点（た）て、茶を振る舞う行為。また、それを基本とした様式と芸道のことです。
茶道といえば、みなさんの頭の中に出てくるのはかの有名な千利休でしょう。彼は１５００年代、激乱の戦国時代に織田信長や豊臣秀吉に茶頭として仕え、茶道を完成させた人物です。
裏千家の名称は、千利休からの家督を継いだ本家の表千家（不審菴）に対し、今日庵が通りからみて裏にある意。宗家は京都市上京区小川寺之内上ルにあり、表千家宗家と隣接しています。その茶室・今日庵（こんにちあん）は裏千家の代名詞でもあります。
大阪府との境界に位置する京都府大山崎町に日本最古の茶室建造物が存在するのですが、それは千利休の作と信じうる唯一の現存茶室です。この茶室「待庵（たいあん）」は国宝に指定されています。
茶道というのは単に茶を点て、茶を味わうという行為ではなく、茶道が物語る日本の精神に本質があります。千利休の有名な逸話をひとつ。ある朝、秀吉 が利休に茶会に招かれると庭の朝顔が全て切り取られていました。不審に思いながら秀吉が茶室に入ると、床の間に一輪だけ朝顔が生けてあり、一輪ゆえに際立 てられた朝顔の美しさに秀吉は深く感動したのです。
茶道の美しく深みのある精神は世界に伝えられなければならない。そんな思いで茶道流派の一つである裏千家は活動してきました。その結果、今日では北 米、中南米、アジア、オセアニア、アフリカそしてヨーロッパへと広がり、世界３０数ヶ国１００ヶ所ほどに裏千家の拠点があります。裏千家寄贈の茶室も、ハ ワイ、バンクーバー、パリ、ロンドン、ミュンヘン、ブリュッセル、ヘルシンキ、リマ、サンパウロ、北京、天津など多くの主要都市にあり、茶道普及のみなら ず日本文化の紹介と友好のシンボルとして大きく貢献しています。
京都に本部を置く裏千家ブラジル協会は、１９５４年、サンパウロ市制４００年の折に発足しました。当時から、サンパウロで憩いの場として親しまれて いたイビラプエラ公園に、日本移民が総力をあげて「日本館」を建設し、これをサンパウロ市に寄付しました。その茶室で裏千家十五代家元が茶を立てたところ から、裏千家ブラジル協会の歴史が始まりました。ですから、今年２０１４年は記念すべき日本館の６０周年を迎える年となり、そして同時に裏千家ブラジル発 祥６０年の年となるわけです。
その大切な節目の記念行事を企画すべく会議が２月１１日文協貴賓室にて行なわれました。
ブラジル日本文化福祉協会代表者たち（木多喜八郎会長、呉屋春美副会長、松尾治副会長）と裏千家関係者の方々（日本本部、アメリカ支部、メキシコ支 部、ブラジル支部）が会合を持ち、８月２９日に行なわれる裏千家記念式典において、兼ねてから文協木多会長が招待していた、６０年前に真新しい日本館で茶 を点てた裏千家千玄室大宗匠がご出席されることが決定いたしました。木多会長が招待したフェルナンド･アダッドサンパウロ市長の出席も見込まれています。 もちろん文協ビル４階「伯栄庵」でもイベントが行なわれる予定です。大切な節目の年となる日本館６０周年記念は、お茶に限らず、他にも色々なイベントが行 なわれる予定となっています。それらのイベントに関しましては随時お伝えいたしますので、みなさん楽しみにお待ちください。

Em 2014 celebramos o 60 º aniversário da Difusao da Cerimonia do Cha Urasenke na America Latina.

Em 1954, o Daisosho esteve pela primeira vez nas Américas e fundou escolas de chá no Brasil, Argentina, Peru e México. No Brasil ele inaugurou o Pavilhão Japones por ocasião do aniversário de 400 da Fundação da Cidade de São Paulo.

Nos dias 29 a 31 de agosto foi realizada a Convenção Latino-Americana do Chado Urasenke Tankoukai América Latina  foi realizada em São Paulo cidade com a Presença do Grão Mestre Sen Soshitsu 15 (Daisosho, 91anos) 300 pessoas se reuniram de todo o mundo. Praticantes do Japão, Estados Unidos, Alemanha e países latino-americanos, como Brasil, Argentina, Peru, México. 

Sen no Rikyu criou a cerimônia do chá e a Escola Urasenke do Japão é uma das 3 famílias, que descendem de Sen no Rikkyu. Atualmente a Urasenke tem escolas em 107 locais e 35 países. Nos países latino-americanos, depois de ter inaugurado o Pavilhão Japonês no parque Ibirapuera, no 400 º aniversário da cidade de São Paulo, fundada em 1554. Em 1954 o Daisosho visitou o Pavilhão Japonês e deu início à Difusão da Cerimônia do Chá no Brasil, na Argentina, Peru e México.





茶を通じた世界平和を祈念
　 茶道裏千家は１９５４年にブラジ ル、アルゼンチン、ペルー、メキシコに支部を設置してから今年で布教60周年を迎え、それを記念した「裏千家淡交会中南米大会」を８月29日から31日ま での３日間、サンパウロ（聖）市で開催した。同大会には15代家元・千玄室氏（大宗匠、91、京都）の出席を筆頭に、中南米諸国や日本、北米など世界各地 から約３００人の門弟が参集。60周年の節目の年を祝うと共に、「一盌からピースフルネスを」を掲げる千玄室大宗匠は茶を通じた世界平和の実現を祈念し た。
　茶人・千利休に端を発し、日本の「茶の湯」三千家の一つである茶道裏千家は、現在35カ国１０７カ所に支部を設ける茶道諸流派中最大 の 流派。中南米諸国においては、１９５４年にサンパウロ市創立４００周年記念でイビラプエラ公園を造った際、同園内に建設された日本館の開館式に大宗匠が当 時若宗匠として訪れ、茶を点（た）てたことをきっかけにブラジル協会を設立。続いてアルゼンチン、ペルー、メキシコも訪問して協会を設立した。
　それから60年を経た今年、大宗匠は45年ぶり３回目の来伯を果たし、同園内で８月29日午後１時から中南米大会に先立ち行われた「開拓先亡者慰霊碑献茶式」「日本館60周年記念月間開会式」に出席した。
　慰霊碑に献茶・献花した大宗匠は、「本当に感無量であります」とあいさつし、同碑を管理する県連の本橋幹久会長から謝辞が述べられた。
　日本館へ場所を移した一行は、初めに館内外を回覧。大宗匠は、「思い出すなあ」と口にしながら過去の訪問を懐かしんだ。
　式典のあいさつで木多喜八郎文協会長は、同館に長年携わってきた人々への感謝を述べ、「日本館を末永くご利用していただき、日本古来の姿・伝統文化などを通してブラジルと日本の懸け橋となることを願ってやみません」と将来への希望を語った。
　大宗匠は、60周年を迎えた喜びを語り、「もういっぺん長生きして、この日本館で皆様方に一服のお茶を差し上げ、日本とブラジルの文化交流に大きな思いを残したい」と笑顔で話すと、会場からは温かい拍手が送られた。
　中南米大会は同日午後６時から聖市ブルックリン区グランド・ハイアットホテルで行われた「千玄室大宗匠主催晩餐会」に始まり、大宗匠は各テーブルを回って写真を撮るなど親交を温めた。
　 翌30日午前10時から茶道裏千家淡交会による「日伯友好・平和祈念献茶式並びに和合の茶会」が聖市モルンビー区のバンデランテス宮殿（聖州政庁）で開催 された。来賓には梅田邦夫在伯日本国大使館特命全権大使、福嶌教輝在聖総領事、羽藤ジョージ聖州議、野村アウレリオ聖市議、日系３団体会長、伯、亜、メキ シコ、ペルーの同淡交会代表らが出席した。
　世界各地から駆け付けた着物姿の同門や地元の日系人ら約９００人が見守る厳粛な雰囲気の中、日伯両国旗が掲げられた壇上に設けられた即席の茶室で大宗匠がお手前の茶を静かに点て、立礼式と呼ばれる作法で「献茶の儀」を執り行った。
　次に来賓らが一つの茶碗で「濃茶」を飲み回す「和合の茶会」を行い、大宗匠は「飲み回しをすることで、皆一緒に区別・差別ない和の精神を」と説明した。
　続いて、「中南米茶道布教60周年・茶道裏千家淡交会ブラジル協会設立60周年記念式典」が行われ、大宗匠は、「日伯友好のために献茶させていただきました。60年を迎えたことを大変ありがたく思い、心からお礼申し上げる。ムイト・オブリガード」とあいさつした。
　それを受けて梅田大使は、「60年を経た今日の茶会は日本とブラジルの一つの歴史。日本とサンパウロ、日本とブラジルの関係強化に大きく貢献する」と述べ、60年の功績を称えた。
　その後、裏千家ブラジル協会の林宗慶、林宗円両氏の正教授任命式、26の個人・団体の功労者表彰が大宗匠の手から行われた。
　31日にはグランド・ハイアットホテルで記念茶会が開かれ、日本、ブラジル、北米、中南米、アマゾン、学校茶道など、それぞれの特色を現す道具や菓子を用いた茶席が設けられた。

『みんな一緒に平和を！』　大宗匠が「記念講演会」

サンパウロ州政庁で記念行事が行われた８月30日、式典後の午前11時45分から、千玄室大宗匠による「記念講演会」が『みんな一緒に平和を！』を演題に約50分間実施された。
　 大宗匠は初めに初代家元・千利休の「お茶室に入ったら武士も商人も農民も皆一緒」という言葉を引用。階級差の激しかった今から５００年以上前の戦国時代に茶道が生まれ、茶室では皆平等に一盌の茶を勧め合ったという茶道元来からの真髄を説明した。
　 また、ジョア ン・ロドリゲス（キリスト教宣教師フランシスコ・ザビエルの従者）の著書『日本教会史』には茶の記載が３分の１あることや、大宗匠自身家が禅宗でありなが らカトリックの同志社大学で学んだ経験を語り、中国から仏教と共に伝わった茶とキリスト教の密接な関係を説明した。
　大宗匠は、「自分だけ飲んだらいいんじゃないか、そうではなく、人様に勧める。『あなたのために』。皆がそういう気持ちでずっと共に一つのお茶を飲んでいただいたならば、どんなに平和な心になるでしょうか」と一同に問い掛けた。
　 また、利休が唱えた茶道の精神「和敬清寂」について語り、「ブラジルこそ私は茶道が一番大きな役割を果たせる一つのものだと思います。もちろんコーヒーも 大事ですよ。けれど、お茶を召し上がってください。お茶を召し上がったらこんなに元気になります」と話すと会場からは拍手と笑いが起こった。
　そして、「百聞は一見に如かず」ということで、茶室における茶道の実演が門弟たちによって行われた。
　最後に大宗匠は、次の言葉で講演を締めくくった。
　「とにかくこのお茶碗は丸いんですね。地球なんですよ。その中に緑がいっぱいある。私たちはそれを大事にしないといけない。だから片手でもいいけど、両手で。温かく。そうすると自分の気持ちが落ち着いてきます。どうもありがとう」―。

Dias 29, 30 e 31 agosto de 2014 serao comemorados 60 anos de Divulgacao da Cerimonia do Cha na America Latina e Central - Jubileu de Diamante da Difusao do Urasenke com a presenca do Daisosho do Japao.

Virao delegacoes de diversos paises, entre eles: Japao, Estados Unidos (Nova Iorque, Sao Francisco, Hawaii, Argentina, Mexico, Peru, Alemanha, Canada, Indonesia e Singapura.

Estima-se 500 chajin (apreciadores da Cerimonia do Cha) da Argentina, Brasil, Canada, Alemanha, Indonesia, Japao, Mexico, Peru, Singapura e Estados Unidos e tera a participacao do Grao Mestre Hounsan Genshitsu Sen. Em 1954, seu pai,  o 14 Grao Mestre, Tantai Soshitsu, veio para fundar o Urasenke em varios paises da America Latina. O Centro de Chado Urasenke constitui-se na Argentina, Brasil, Mexico e Peru. Como em sua primeira viagem para os Estados Unidos em 1951, Hounsai Genshitsu visitou muitos paises divulgando a Cerimonia do Cha atraves do mundo.

Esperamos que um total aproximado entre 500 a 1000 pessoas nos 3 dias de eventos.

2004 marks the 50th year since Daisosho SEN Genshitsu (at the time, wakasosho), together with his brother NAYA Sotan Yoshiharu, went to Mexico in 1954 to attend the 9th World Convention of the International Junior Chamber as representative from Japan, and during that trip, inaugurated the Urasenke Mexico, Brazil, Peru, and Argentina chapters. To commemorate this 50th anniversary of Urasenke's official presence in Central and South America, there will be a grand Urasenke Tankokai Latin America Convention held in Mexico City this coming September. Many events are scheduled, including a tea offertory service as well as a public lecture by Daisosho SEN Genshitsu, and a tea gathering at which the various venues will highlight the features of the sponsoring countries.

This year, 2004, is the 50th anniversary of Urasenke's official presence in Brazil. In celebration, Urasenke followers in and around the nation's largest city, São Paulo, have been busy with many special activities. The first of these was a commemorative tea gathering held under the auspices of the Japanese Consulate General in São Paulo and jointly sponsored by the Urasenke Brazil Branch and Brazilian Society for Japanese Culture (Sociedade Brasileira de Cultura Japonesa) on May 20, 2004, at the Japanese Pavilion within Ibirapuera Park. This impressive park, including its Japanese pavilion, was inaugurated in 1954, to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the city. The formal opening of the pavilion and tearoom located inside of it was the event that occasioned the visit of SEN Genshitsu Hounsai, then still known as SEN Soko, together with his younger brother NAYA Yoshiharu, fifty years ago, and the beginning of Urasenke's official activities in Brazil. The May 20th tea gathering this year simultaneously celebrated the 50th anniversary of the pavilion and of Urasenke in Brazil. Approximately forty Urasenke chado students and teachers coordinated efforts to receive the 250 invited guests for tea in the traditional-style tearoom, ryurei tea in the garden, and the nice tenshin meal they had arranged.    In June, a book entitled DO -- A Essencia da Cultura Japonesa / Michi to shite no Nihon Bunka, written in Portuguese and Japanese and funded by dozens of local sponsors, was published, and the Urasenke Brazil Branch played a key role in realizing this.     The inaugural reception for the Japan Weeks 2004 organized by the Japanese Consulate combined with it the publication party. It took place on the eve of the five-day initial event of the Japan Weeks program, June 4, at the Bank Réal Hall in São Paulo, with nearly one thousand citizens attending. The five-day initial Japan Weeks program showcased various Japanese cultural "ways" and was primarily sponsored by the Urasenke Brazil Branch and Ikebana Association of Brazil, in cooperation with the Consulate. The Urasenke members mounted an exhibition of photo panels and tea utensils to introduce the Way of Tea, and conducted chanoyu demonstrations three times a day in the portable tearoom which they had erected in the Bank Real Hall.

    In August, the members will present a chanoyu demonstration program at the Club Pinheiros Theater in São Paulo, and in September, approximately thirty will travel to Mexico to join with the other Urasenke groups in Latin America and those coming to participate from other parts of the globe, for the Chado Urasenke Tankokai Latin America Convention in Mexico, celebrating the golden anniversaries of all the Urasenke affiliates in this world region.

General Information/Program

In 1951, the present Urasenke grand master, SEN Soshitsu XV, made his first journey outside Japan to promote the Way of Tea. His first destination was Hawaii, and that very year, the first official Urasenke chapter outside Japan - the Urasenke Hawaii Chapter - was established. This year, 2001, thus represents the 50th year since the Grand Master began his life's work to spread understanding and appreciation of the ideals of the Way of Tea - ideals which engender Peace - to people throughout the world, and it also marks the 50th anniversary of the Urasenke Hawaii Chapter.        Commemorating these two milestones in the history of Urasenke, the first-ever Urasenke International Convention was held this summer (July 19-23) in that significant place, Hawaii. Appropriate to the convention theme, "Peacefulness through a Bowl of Tea: Tea Beyond National Boundaries," approximately 1,200 Urasenke followers from around the world, including 500 Chado Urasenke Tankokai members from all parts of Japan, participated in the convention and shared in the various celebratory events. Attending from Japan as special guests were T.I.H. Prince Takamado Norihito and Princess Hisako.        An important business-related event on the program was the World Representatives' Meeting, at which the present Urasenke chapters and dokokai (official interest groups) outside Japan were officially moved from the management of the Urasenke Foundation to that of the corporate body Chado Urasenke Tankokai, Inc., effectively making the latter a worldwide Urasenke membership organization.
